Our Roots
Established in 1981 by King Valley legend Peter Read, Symphonia Wines pioneered a number of alternative varieties in the region, including Petit Manseng and Saperavi. Known for its high quality and minimalist approach, the vineyard also supplied local estates Brown Brothers, Pizzini, De Bortoli and Gapstead.
The winery has been owned by the Evans family since 2005, and led by the dynamic mother-and-daughter duo Suzanne and Sophie Evans. Firm believers that the terroir on which the vineyard is built is essential to the wine’s essence, Suzanne and Sophie continue to champion cool climate, left-field varieties which are not traditionally planted by Victorian wineries.
Together with winemaker Lilian Carter, they continue Peter Read’s legacy and produce wines under the Symphonia label that are elegant, unique, and flavourful. The wines have a sense of place, crafted just as nature intended with minimal input.
Lawyers by trade, Suzanne and Sophie fell in love with the King Valley. They share the vision to bring to Australia and the King Valley some of the world’s most unique varieties. They believe passion, determination and collaboration is the way to achieve this vision.
From their family to yours, the Evans hope you will enjoy discovering and savouring Symphonia wines as much as they have had fun making them. Symphonia Wines are best enjoyed with shared plates, great friends, and lively conversations.
