Symphonia vineyards is a winemaking idyll in the Victorian alpine region owned by Peter and Suzanne Evans. Family owned and operated since 2005, Symphonia is the product of hard work, collaboration and the Evans’ determination to bring to Australia some of the most unique wine varieties the world has to offer.
The vitners have quite a history in Australia’s vinous landscape and continue to share the vision of the original owner Peter Read.
When he planted the vineyard in 1981, alternative varieties were always the core focus and this decision has been validated over the years as fruit from the vineyards has been sourced by some notable names. Pizzini, De Bortoli, Gapstead and Bill Downie have all utilised the site. Today, the Evans continue his legacy, producing cool-climate varieties that wouldn’t normally be found on a Victorian vineyard.
On any given day you can find the Evans out in the vineyard, walking up and down the rows of vines checking closely monitoring the progress of the grapes and tending to the vines with skill and crafstmanship. They work in close proximity with Symphonia’s winemaker, Lilian Carter, to ensure that every bottle of Symphonia Wine is created with purpose and care.
Lilian Carter maintains a commitment to making wines in the style they were intended. She is known for letting the fruit “speak for itself,” championing a winemaking process that interferes with the grapes as little as possible.
Behind the scenes, Sophie, Peter and Suzanne’s daughter, organizes orders, shipments and stockists. Sophie’s love for wine and her family’s business shines through her work daily.
Today, the Symphonia vineyard near Myrrhee in Victoria’s King Valley continues to excel, powered by a family commitment to producing the obscure and the unusual, we trust that you will enjoy our wines as much as we enjoy making them.
