THE GRAPE Petit Manseng originates from the South-West of France and is characterised by small thick-skinned berries which yield very little juice relative to other white varieties. It is the last variety in the vineyard to go through veraison and is incredibly slow to ripen, often it is not harvested until mid April, long after the rest of the vineyard.
THE WINEMAKEING is simple with the aim being to protect the unique varietal character of Petit Manseng through a cool fermentation in a temperature controlled tank. Full lees contact and some stirring post fermentation imparts some delicious nutty and creamy textures.
THE WINE has a lovely backbone of natural acidity with voluptuous flavours and mouth filling texture. The structure of this wine is unique with ultra fine tannins giving a powerful edge. It is a wine that stands out from the crowd and will show increased complexity with a few years of bottle age. We particularly enjoy matching this wine with soft pungent cheese or a French inspired dish with a rich creamy sauce.
