Las Triadas Tempranillo 2014

Regular price $45.00

Tempranillo means "little early one", a name given to it by Spanish growers who observed its habit of ripening early. It grows extremely well in topographically diverse regions with high diurnal temperature variation (i.e. cool nights, warm days) so the King Valley climate is perfect. It has a wide range of aromas ranging from strawberries, plums, blackcurrants and cherries, to prunes, chocolate, leather and dried herbs and tobacco.

The winemaking of the Las Triadas Tempranillo differs significantly from the La Solista Tempranillo. In 2014 it was decided that the intensity of the fruit would be best managed by fermentation in small open vessels with a variety of plunging and pump over maceration techniques. Having spent 16 days on skins the wine was pressed into fine grain French oak barriques for 12 months' maturation.

The wine shows our Tempranillo at its best - vibrant and energetic with density, complexity and concentration. Ripe black cherry fruit characters are rounded out by soft, mouth filling tannins derived from the grape and built on during maturation in barrel. A versatile, medium to full bodied wine with persistence.
